Ms. September Kelokelo, a young climate activist from Papua New Guinea, conducted a series of workshops and activties on Care for Creation and SDG 13 – Climate Action from the 1st of September 2019 to 10th of November 2019.
A strong advocate for urgent climate action, September was one of the panelists at the side event – Youth Aspirations and Climate Urgency organised at the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) – 2019 in New York.
Upon returning from the United States, September, along with the support of her family, Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands and the Alotau-Sideia Diocese, conducted awareness drives, presentations and talks on the Care of the Environment and Climate Action.

Her efforts have brought about a discussion and dialogue within her community around the effects of the climate emergency. Through a combination of videos, discussions, games and film screenings, she reached out to her audience.
After doing this work, going around and talking to many people, September knows what needs to be done and is hopeful to see many people willing to do the work but we are quite hesitant to take a step forward. Some have been taking little, consistent steps to caring for the environment and helping to reduce the effects of climate change. However, she emphasises the need for more assurance and support from everyone that we all have a part to play in caring for the environment and combatting climate change in this world.
